ContentsAbout this page
The Edit Layout page enables you create a new layout or modify an existing one. If you want to create a new map starting with the layout, you can direct your browser to this page using the "Create a new map starting from layout" link on the main menu. Alternatively, you could come to this page by clicking the "Edit layout" link on the home page of an existing map.
If you enter the page to create a layout for a new map, the page will initially show the default layout of 10 slots in one row. If you enter the page from the home page of an existing map, the slots will reflect the current layout for the map. Any cards that have previously been placed in the slots will also be shown in this case.
In addition to the slots and possibly cards, you will see an array of 100 "spots" in 10 rows and 10 columns. Some of these will be covered by slots. Each spot represents a location where you may place a slot.
Using the mouse, drag the slots from their current locations to whatever new spots you wish them to occupy. To place a slot in an empty spot, drag it so that some part of the slot covers the small black square marking the spot, then release the mouse. The slot should "snap" into place in the spot.
A slot will not snap into a spot that already has another slot in it. You must first move the other slot out of the spot and drop it somewhere else on the page.
In most cases, slots are interchangeable; that is, it does not matter which of the slots on the page you move into a given spot. An exception is if you intend to use the ctrl-click feature or the "Deal" button on the "Edit Cards and Text" page and you care in what order the slots are filled. In that case, you will have to keep in mind that the slots will be filled in their original left-to-right order and arrange your layout accordingly. See the Edit Cards and Text help page for details.
If you want to add new slots to the layout, click on the slot generator labeled "Get new slots here". This should cause a new slot to be created beneath the mouse pointer. Drag the new slot to the desired spot.
If you want to eliminate some spots from the layout, drag them to the area labeled "Move unwanted slots into this area" before saving the layout. Actually, anywhere on the page that is not in a spot will do; slots that are not in spots will not be included in the layout when it is saved. Note that if you eliminate a slot containing a card, the card will be removed from the map along with the slot.
When you have finished editing the layout you will probably wish to save it to the online database. To save your layout, click the Save button in the controls area of the page. After saving your layout in the database, the system will display the map home page. You will probably want to bookmark this page if you have not done so before.
Be aware that if you abandon the Edit Layout page without saving, any changes you made will be lost.
Operations that modify the database, such as Save, require that you be logged in to the groupworksdeck.org site. If you are modifying an existing map, you must be logged in as the owner (creator) of that map. See the Card Mapping Tutorial page for a detailed discussion of user authentication as it applies to card mapping. If you are not authorized to save the map you are viewing, the Save button will be disabled.
The image will always be "on top", covering any other displayed elements occupying the same area. If it is in an inconvenient location, you can drag it to a better one.
Double-clicking the larger image, in turn, will open a new browser window or tab (depending on your browser and its settings) showing the full groupworksdeck.org web page for the pattern represented by the card, including a comprehensive description, examples, and other resources.
You can double-click another card to replace the larger image with a different one, or click the X at the upper right of the image to dismiss it.
